As many of you know from working with me, I have a background in somatic psychology. As a body-centered EMDR therapist, I believe that when working with someone in trauma, the client must be able to feel a feeling, feel the sensations, and stay present in the body to heal the trauma without re-traumatizing them. I believe that the body-mind connection is an important part of healing trauma, and helps ground the client when using EMDR. This is why I have a strong emphasis on body-centered work in my EMDR Basic Training, and continue the theme in my Advanced EMDR Workshops such as “PTSD and EMDR Toolkit” and “Somatic Interventions and EMDR.”
If you’ve ever wanted to understand the importance of body-centered work as it relates to trauma, there is an opportunity to participate in a free lecture series with world-class experts on the subject. On June 22, 2011 (Wednesday) Pat Ogden, Ph.D will be one of the speakers on this series. Pat Ogden is a world-renowned expert in understanding the biology and neurophysiology of trauma, and is well respected in the field of body-centered trauma work.
I have taken workshops with Pat Ogden in the past, and recommend her book to compliment the study of EMDR:
“Trauma and the Body: A Sensorimotor Approach to Psychotherapy”
This is a great opportunity for therapists who have wanted to learn more about body-centered trauma work from a world-renowned expert.
Date: June 22, 2011 – Wednesday
