British Ministry of Defence Approves Use of EMDR to Treat PTSD

EMDR is already being used for the treatment of PTSD in the United States. A recent article in the BBC announced that the British Ministry of Defence has now approved the use of EMDR for their veterans suffering from PTSD, based on the recommendation of the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence. The Ministry of Defense plans on training 50 mental health professionals over the next three years to carry out EMDR.

In the modern era of global policing where armed forces from different nations are working together (or against each other), the effects of PTSD on military service people and the need for trauma treatment will become more recognized throughout the world. It will become even more important for therapists to learn and become trained in EMDR to deal with PTSD on a global scale.
