This EMDRIA approved two-day Somatic EMDR Workshop — taught by Barb Maiberger, MA, LPC  and John Gray, MA, LPC, CACIII — focuses on how to prepare clients who are struggling with addictions for successful EMDR therapy trauma reprocessing. Over the years, we have observed EMDR therapists feeling pressure to get fast results in working with addictions which can lead to more relapses. Part of the addiction process is to run away from feeling the body by escaping into the “high” from the addiction. This disconnect from the body can make trauma reprocessing difficult and too scary for the client. Slowing down the preparation phase is the key to developing the necessary skills for the clients to relate to their feelings and body sensations. Our unique somatic tools are designed to help clients learn to tolerate feelings and sensations, build confidence and skills, and feel safe enough to move forward with trauma reprocessing for successful EMDR therapy.
