  • 12:10-1:45 — Arielle Schwartz, PhD, and Lorene Cecilia, MA, LPC will present “EMDR and Dissociation: Reflections, Considerations, and Cases.”

In this meeting Dr. Arielle Schwartz will share some key points from a course taken with Kathy Steele entitled “The Integrative Treatment of Complex Developmental Trauma Disorders.” Emphasis of Dr. Schwartz’s talk will be on the existential issues associated with treating complex trauma as related to dissociation. She will discuss the relevance of Dr. Steele’s work to cases.

Dr. Arielle Schwartz is a licensed clinical psychologist and EMDR Therapy consultant who maintains a private practice in Boulder, Colorado. She developed Resilience Informed Therapy which applies research on trauma to form a strength based, trauma treatment model that includes EMDR therapy, somatic psychology, and time-tested relational psychotherapy. She provides consultation/supervision and offers the following advanced trainings in conjunction with the Maiberger Institute:

Lorene Cecilia MA, LPC will be presenting a case of a client suffering from Dissociative Amnesia and severe chronic PTSD as well as bipolar 1 disorder. The focus of the discussion will be on when & why it is not advisable to use EMDR as a treatment modality for someone with complex PTSD and severe dissociative symptoms.

Lorene Cecilia is a licensed professional counselor and has been in private practice for 16 years. She received her EMDR training in 2003 and treats clients with complex and severe traumas such as adult survivors of sexual abuse, emotional, physical abuse and neglect, rape, kidnapping and bipolar illness, grief and loss, and sexual identity issues.
Lorene is also trained in Gestalt counseling, DBT & CBT. She also sees couples, teens and adolescents and worked as a Neurotherapist doing neurofeedback for the last 6 years. Lorene Cecilia was born and raised in Europe and attended the University of Colorado for her bachelor’s degree in biology as well as Naropa University for her Master’s degree in transpersonal counseling psychology. 

PLEASE NOTE: You must buy lunch to attend this meeting. There are some vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free items on the menu (see below).
