This two-day EMDRIA Approved EMDR Advanced Workshop applies EMDR Therapy Tools for working with Addictions. Addictions will be explored through the lens of trauma as well as the stages of change. The emphasis of this workshop is to focus on preparing clients for EMDR Therapy trauma protocol. The resourcing exercises are designed to help clients become more connected to their bodies somatically and develop affect tolerance and safety for EMDR Readiness. This workshop will include time for experiential practice, case discussion and application. Participants will be able to put these skills into their practice immediately.

EMDR Trainers

Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss that clients struggling with addictions have poor self-regulation
  • Recognize that trauma can be an underlying cause for addictions
  • Recall that helping clients connect to their bodies before EMDR trauma processing is part of EMDR readiness
  • Identify there are stages of change in the Addiction process
  • Recognize the importance of resourcing clients before doing EMDR Therapy trauma protocol
  • Apply one RDI to help relapse prevention
  • Demonstrate how to manage the Inner Enabler through an RDI Intervention
  • Recognize at least two signs that a client is not in the Pocket of Trust
  • Recognize at least two signs that the client is in the Pocket of Trust
  • Summarize that the Victim-Rescuer-Perpetrator Triangle is a learned way of interacting that causes clients pain
  • Demonstrate how to build dual awareness for clients to help build safety in processing.
  • Review the process of helping clients connect to loving feelings toward others and self to build affect tolerance
