EMDR Therapy Tools with Somatic Interventions – EMDR Advanced Workshop – Boulder, Colorado – July 2017 — EMDR Therapy Trainers: Barb Maiberger, MA, LPC and Arielle Schwartz, Ph.D, LP — This two-day EMDRIA approved EMDR Advanced Workshop is an introduction to Somatic Psychology and how it interfaces with the 8 Phases of EMDR Therapy. Somatic Psychology studies the relationship between the body and psychological states by highlighting physiological patterns as a primary foundation of human behavior. Therapists will learn the history of somatic psychology and the basic principles that are the foundations of body centered therapies. This course will review the physiology of the nervous system and how somatic interventions directly influence nervous system regulation and therapy. These somatic interventions will be explored didactically and experientially through practices including body awareness, non-verbal communications, exploration of body posturing, as well as habitual stress responses. The weekend will include time for case discussion and application.
