Somatic Interventions and EMDR Therapy

somatic-interventions-and-emdr-therapy

This two-day EMDRIA approved EMDR Advanced Training is an introduction to Somatic Psychology and how it interfaces with the 8 Phases of EMDR Therapy. Somatic Psychology studies the relationship between the body and psychological states by highlighting physiological patterns as a primary foundation of human behavior. Therapists will learn the history of somatic psychology and the basic principles that are the foundations of body centered therapies. This training will review the physiology of the nervous system and how somatic interventions directly influence nervous system regulation and therapy. These Somatic Interventions will be explored didactically and experientially through practices including body awareness, non-verbal communications, exploration of body posturing as well as habitual stress responses. The weekend will include time for case discussion and application.

Learning Objectives:

  • Summarize a basic understanding of Somatic Psychology in relationship to EMDR Therapy
  • Demonstrate at least one somatic intervention that can be applied to the 8 Phases of EMDR Therapy.
  • Recognize how self – awareness of nonverbal communication increases therapist’s trustworthiness and facilitates therapeutic alliance.
  • Exhibit how Somatic interventions facilitate client’s ability to self regulate.
